Education Cyber Security Insight
In 2017, the Janet network reported 583 attacks across 153 Universities, Colleges and academic institutions over a 6-month period, once again highlighting the specific cyber security and GDPR compliance challenges facing the Education sector.
The Problem: The number of unmanaged, IoT and OT devices connected, will exceed 20+ Billion by 2020, providing hackers with a much larger attack surface. Despite this, it is universally recognised that at any given time, up to 24% of connected devices still go undetected.
The Challenges: Open networks for information sharing and complexities in managing these network environments, has made Education an attractive target for cyber attacks. With growing numbers of devices and students based nationally and globally, mixed with recreational and social media traffic, the increased digital footprint of the network makes it harder than ever before to control in real time. Existing security solutions are often siloed, creating blind spots and further exposure to risks.
