National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) Launches Cyber Security Guidance for Charities
Devious tricks to defraud small charities through online attacks have been exposed in the first ever threat assessment for the sector, along with guidance about how to defend against possible risks.
The work by the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), a part of GCHQ, will give the sector more help than ever before to defend itself from the most common cyber attacks.
An Increasingly Challenging Landscape - Not typically having previously considered themselves a target, there is a realisation for Charity organisations of being equally susceptible to indiscriminate cyber attacks. Limitations in addressing the problem include trustee and staff skill levels, strong cultural focus on cost cutting, lack of centralised control and competing demands on time. Donor, volunteer and user information as well delivery of front line services, are at higher risk than ever before.
Against the above backdrop, the number of unmanaged, IoT and OT devices connected, will exceed 20+ Billion by 2020, providing hackers with a much larger attack surface. Despite this, it is universally recognised that at any given time, up to 24% of connected devices still go undetected.
