techUK comments on 4G deal between Government and the 4 mobile network providers to help end rural 'not-spots'.

The Government recently (25 October 2019) announced a much needed £1 billion deal to help enhance mobile connectivity in rural areas.

The deal, which includes all four mobile network operators EE, O2, Three and Vodafone, aims to get 4G coverage to 95 per cent of the UK by 2025.

Commenting on the deal Julian McGougan, Executive Director, techUK recently said:

"Many rural areas currently have poor connectivity which hinders not only citizens lives but economic growth and job creation.

“techUK very much welcomes today’s announcement, which is part of a wider package of plans the government has already announced to enhance the nation’s connectivity, but more needs to be done to enhance access to reliable, high speed connectivity sooner rather than later.

“While the government has already made some useful changes, planning regulations still need further reform to ensure operators don’t face unnecessary delays in bringing connectivity.

“Additionally all relevant public sector bodies must work closer together with industry, such as making available public infrastructure, to speed up the deployment of mobile infrastructure technology."
