NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Mathematics for Everyday Life (603/3437/X)
NCFE is proud to announce the new Level 3 Certificate in Mathematics for Everyday Life. We’ve worked with Professor David Burghes and his colleagues from the Centre for Innovation in Mathematics Teaching (CIMT) to develop this new Core Maths qualification, designed to help combat the issue of poor progression in mathematics from age 16.
David and colleagues have been involved in the Core Maths initiative from the outset and have been able to share their knowledge and expertise of the subject area to enable us to develop a truly innovative qualification that meets the original purpose.
This qualification enables post 16 learners not studying AS or A level maths the opportunity to undertake a Level 3 maths course alongside their main programme of study. It will enable them to retain, deepen and extend their mathematical understanding through using maths to solve meaningful and relevant problems which will prepare learners for university, academic or vocational learning, employment and life. The word ‘life’ in our qualification title refers to all aspects of future needs, the key themes being:
- Understanding personal finance
- Understanding commerce
- Understanding chance
- Understanding data.
To support the application of the mathematical and statistical problem solving techniques learners will develop throughout the duration of this qualification, resources have been contextualised to vocations and areas of interest meaning that learners will be presented with issues and stories that are meaningful and of interest to them. The areas are as follows:
- Business and Administration
- Engineering and Manufacturing
- Health and Science.
The qualification is approved by the Department for Education and will be open for registrations on 1 September 2019. It attracts performance points in 16-19 tables, UCAS points and is suitable for use within a Study Programme. You can also find out about funding for core maths here.
If you’d like to register for updates on this qualifications, please get in touch with us here.
