NEPO and Embleton Hall Dairies help the public sector to reduce plastic waste

Embleton Hall Dairies, supplier to NEPO416 Milk & Dairy Products, have introduced milk pouches to help NEPO members reduce plastic waste.

The pouches use 83% less plastic than a standard two litre poly bottle. Their robust design allows users to dispense milk with the aid of a reusable jug, which holds and grips the pouch in place. Any unused milk can be stored in a standard fridge.

NEPO416 Milk & Dairy Products is used by eleven public sector organisations across the North East. Based on previous years’ orders, a transition from bottles to pouches could reduce plastic by almost 9 tonnes.

Nicola Shelley, Managing Director at NEPO yesterday said:

“Innovation and social value are at the core of NEPO’s procurement solutions. Embleton Hall’s efforts to support the public sector in reducing plastic waste is just one example of how they are adding value. They have also supported food education programmes by hosting local schools at their dairies and running Design a Milkshake competitions. We are proud to be working with such an innovative North East SME.”

Kirk Newton, Director at Embleton Hall Dairies added:

“As a family-owned business, with our roots in farming, Embleton Hall are acutely aware of the need to protect and nurture our local and national resources. Providing our public sector customers with the option to receive milk in pouches offers a genuine solution in the war on plastic.”

NEPO416 Milk & Dairy Products is available for use by North East public sector organisations. Visit the NEPO website to find out more.
